Tide Pools, Gail Hormats
I am drawn to the play and juxtaposition of light, and am fascinated by the seductive patterns in nature. Tide Pools, painted on location at the Wai’opae Tide Pools on the island of Hawai’i, draws on this allure. The pahoehoe and a’a rocks create a broken pattern formed by the tide streaming in. The curves of the rock reflect the slight curve of the horizon. The shallows reflect the light of the pale yellow blue sky. The depths of the pools foretell the sky’s light near dark, not yet seen, but approaching.
